We should all use green energy, as much as possible, to protect the environment. From solar energy to wind power, there are many ways of obtaining energy that are environmentally friendly. How can these technologies be put to work for you? Just keep reading on.

Solar Power

Lower the heating costs of your water, hot tubs and pools by changing over to a heating system that is run by solar power. Using electricity or gas to heat water is not terribly efficient, but water heaters that use solar power maintain water temperatures using only the sun’s rays by way of solar panels. Certain upgrades, though expensive, qualify for specific tax deductions.

Some government money is available to assist consumers with switching to renewable energy. Check with the local government and find out about any possible programs you may be eligible for. You may qualify for free wind or solar installation, or you may find that you can deduct some of your expenses on your taxes.

Do you currently own a farm? If you own a farm, consider installing an energy turbine on your property, or renting land to a utility company for that purpose. Not only does it take up very little space, both you and the neighbors will greatly benefit from this free energy.

Try solar water heaters instead of traditional ones. This works best in areas where the temperature doesn’t drop below freezing. Solar energy systems circulate water through solar heaters and then pump it into the house. Though you can use this system, it’s best to have a regular water heater for backup purposes, just in case there is a day with little sunlight or more water usage than normal.

Check what other energy sources are available in your neighborhood. Investigate costs for using those utilities, and be aware of any legislation about energy costs. For instance, it might be worth it to switch to gas heat instead of electric, or switch to well water instead of municipal water.

If you want to reduce your carbon footprint as well as save some money, do a load of dishwashing only when the dishwasher is filled to capacity. It is wasteful to run the dishwasher with just a few items inside. Once you learn how to properly fill a dishwasher, you will be amazed at the number of dishes that can be washed in one load. Align the dishes so several can fit inside.

This generation must make the change to green energy. It’s true that no source of energy is 100% “clean,” but alternative energy sources are far more clean that what we are using now. Now you know how you can make this world a little greener for our generation and every generation to come.
